Nicholas Blair, a warlock
A warlock is a male witch. Just like a female witch, a warlock can effect change by magical means ("witchcraft"). Another name for warlock is wizard or magician.
Characteristics[]
The origin of witchcraft remains a mystery, however it is known that witches and warlocks have existed for many centuries, passing down their knowledge and skills through generations in family lines, as in the Collins family. Contrary to popular belief, not all warlocks receive their powers from demons, nor do they worship the Devil. Instead, many of them inherit their magic from practice and study and may use their powers however they choose.
Any man who practiced the Black Arts is a warlock, regardless if they are in league with demonic forces like Diabolos or not. Powerful evil warlocks were Nicholas Blair and Judah Zachery, the leader of a coven of witches who was tried and executed but continued to plague Collinsport via his severed head.
Furthermore, Count Andreas Petofi seems quite distinct from the witches, warlocks, and other spell casters in the series, and would more accurately be described as a wizard or mage. Petofi doesn't request assistance from the devil or any dark deity. Much of his mysterious and considerable power is infused into his macabre right hand, although he wields some degree of magical power even without the hand.
Barnabas Collins as well as Quentin Collins and his namesake great-uncle from 1840 all dabbled in black magic. Quentin Collins was taught witchcraft by Evan Hanley, a family lawyer and hardened Satanist.
Although witches are represented as more sentimental and warlocks as more greedy for power, there is no substantial difference between witches and warlocks except gender
