A black religious cult practised in the Caribbean and the southern US, combining elements of Roman Catholic ritual with traditional African magical and religious rites, and characterized by sorcery and spirit possession. It is used in folk law as black magic used by witches and warlocks.

Notes Edit

  • Voodoo has a predominant role in the novel Angelique's Descent, in the present case plays an important role in the childhood of the witch Angelique Bouchard.
  • In the 1991 revival of Dark Shadows, countess Natalie du Prés mentions Angelique's mother as a woman skilled in voodoo practices, but it is only in the novel written by Lara Parker that Angelique's voodoo background is amply described.
