Paul Stoddard was the deadbeat husband of Elizabeth Collins Stoddard and father to Carolyn Stoddard.

Paul married into the wealthy Collins family and lived at Collinwood with his wife Elizabeth. He once commissioned Sam Evans to paint a portrait of him in the style and size of the Jeremiah painting hanging above the Collinwood mantle. The portrait was never begun, despite a few preliminary sketches by Sam (42). 







Backgroun

Paul Stoddard was born in New York (279). and at some point in his life he became friends with Jason McGuire (272).

He later married Elizabeth Stoddard  the resigning priest was Judge Crathorne and Elizabeth had a handkerchief during their wedding (271). After the marriage, he moved to Collinwood and during that time he invited Jason McGuire to stay with them who was surprised when he heard of the marriage because he thought that Paul Stoddard wasn't a man of marriage.(202) he later had a daughter named Carolyn Stoddard born on July 16, 1946 (267).

In December 4, 1949, Paul was at the Blue Whale, to get a drink, and met Mr. Strak and made a deal with him for his most precious object in exchange for twenty years of good luck and fortune, the next day, Elizabeth had attacked Paul with a poker that stunned him. Paul and Jason left Collinsport to start life somewhere else.

In 1969, Paul did return to Collinwood after 20 years (888). He also learned at that time the details of a pact he had made for wealth with beings he now knew were demons. His deal with Mr. Strak was for 20 years of good luck and fortune in exchange for his most precious possession. The Leviathans were coming to collect payment for his good fortune—his daughter Carolyn (900). Attempting to stop this plot, he was killed (933).

Background information and notes

  • Paul was first alluded to in 5, though his name wasn't revealed until 41.
  • In 244 it is stated that Paul left after Carolyn was born. Elizabeth makes references to how he ignored Carolyn.
