The cellar was an immense, dusty cavern supported by vaulted archways located beneath the original Collins family mansion, commonly referred to as the Old House. In June of 1970, the vampire Barnabas Collins acquired the Old House and relocated his coffin from the Collins family mausoleum to the mansion’s cellar. Aside from extraneous debris and fallen timber, there was nothing else of interest to be found in the dank, dungeon area. When Barnabas Collins turned his own cousin, Carolyn Stoddard, into a vampire, he provided her with a new coffin and placed it inside the cellar. Carolyn soon tired of this abode and sought a new haven within the shadows of the Collins family stables.
