Hi there! Thanks for the warm welcome. I actually think you can help me with something if you don't mind. I am VERY new at this editing/wikia thing.
I am trying to post pics to pages since I noticed a lot of episodes don't have the obligatory two pictures on their page and I wanted to help with that. Except I cannot figure out how to get the picture on the page (in that spot where it says 'Dark Shadows Image Needed'). I uploaded a picture and managed to get it tagged into the episode gallery. I can see how I can put a picture ont the page itself (like at the bottom) but that's not what I want. After that I am clueless.
You know what, Danny! You can permanently block me from Muppet Wiki, but I decided to quit the wiki, if that's the way you feel. I constantly lied about the promises I made on the wiki and I constantly broke some of the rules while putting in reliable information. Basically, to add insult to injury, you and the other Muppet Wiki users tried reasoning with me, but I've just forced yourself to take extreme drastic measures. But just remember one thing: when I said "I just couldn't resist", it just doesn't be meant by "can't resist" breaking promises. Goodbye and forever, unless you'll be willing to change your mind which I doubt!
Okay, I got it! It's in the Dark Shadows Almanac, pg 103: "Bob Lloyd is the ABC announcer who provides the closing voiceover beginning in episode 1: 'Dark Shadows is a Dan Curtis production'. The last day on which his voice is heard is September 27, 1967, at the end of episode 328. During a few subsequent episodes, the closing voiceover is made by the actress who spoke the opening voiceover and who also makes the mid-break announcement. The actresses who make these announcements are: Grayson Hall, for episodes 332 and 333 on October 3 and 4, Alexandra Moltke for epsiodes 334336 and 338 on October 5, 9, and 11th, and Joan Bennett for episode 335 on October 6th."
There you go, probably more than you actually wanted to know. :)

Hey Danny! Hope all is well with you. I looked into this and it seems that the last closing voiceover by Bob Lloyd was 330. He also did it for 329. There was no closing voiceover for 331. If it's not Bob Lloyd, I apologize but there is a male doing the closing voiceovers for 329 and 330. Have a good one!
On the DVDs, only the pre-Barnabas episodes, 1-209, have the Bob Lloyd closing voiceovers. Maybe the Almanac is referring to voiceovers that were heard in the episodes' original broadcasts but are missing from the home video releases.
I realize that this is not the autism wikia, but I don't believe you're active there and I wanted you to see this.
I came here to ask you to delete a page about a transgender person. I am the page's original author. When I wrote it, I was under the assumption that no one would care much that the person is transgender and uses unusual pronouns. But it's turned into a mess, with people refusing to use the pronouns and even the person's new legal name (Amelia).
You are welcome to leave me a message if you wish, and I will try to check for them. I am not active on wikia anymore after being cyberbullied off the autism wikia. I certainly can't stop the anti-transgender sentiment on the site, but I really would like it if at least their platform was gone. Amelia Baggs doesn't deserve this, nor do any transgender readers who might have the misfortune of stumbling upon the page or the related discussions.
Hi -- I'm sorry to hear that you've had a bad time there. To get this resolved, you should probably talk to the community support team on community.wikia. Hopefully, they can help you with both the page and the bullying.
Actually, I went to them first (about the guy) and they said I should go to you. Regarding Amelia Baggs' page, I thought that admins were able to delete pages.
It's okay about the bullying. It wasn't serious or anything, just a guy following me around, calling my work biased and stuff, and generally making it clear that I was very unwelcome. I no longer harbor any illusions that anyone intends to help me. He wanted the wikia to be without my influence and now I'm gone. He won. It's not a big deal.
Hey there! I do need some help. I made a screenshot image of Jonas Carter and would like to use it on the page depicting his name. how do i go about doing this. The picture is already uploaded but I had some trouble trying to place it in the "Dark Shadows image needed" section on the right of the page.
Okay, I added your picture to the Jonas Carter page. Editing those templates is tricky -- you have to click on the box to open the template editor, and then find the Image row to replace the image file name.
You've been adding a ton over the last couple months, that's awesome! And it's cool that you've gone back to start with episode 1.
I have a daily Dark Shadows blog called Dark Shadows Every Day, where I'm going through the series in real time. But I started with Barnabas' first episode in 210, because that's where the show started for me, when I watched the reruns in middle school. How far have you gotten so far?
Hello, yes I am an avid fan and I was anxiously awaiting a moment when the bartender actually speaks. He had a higher voice than I imagined. Unfortunately I made spelling errors in my first contributions and wasn't sure how to delete the ones I posted earlier. I may have put up several similar additions with incorrect spellings. I am not sure. If I did could you delete all but the last one. I think I got it right finally. I am handicapped in a wheelchair due to an accident so I watch a lot of Dark Shadows to help cope with this permanent pain. I have most of the series except for a few discs that are damaged somehow. I maybe should just reorder the whole series from MPI or Ebay or Amazon. I heard they come in a coffin looking case. Hate to spend the money again but maybe finally I will get them all. Happy viewing. I watch everyday.
Thank you. They had closeout sale at three separate malls in Oahu, Hawaii. I lived there for Seven years. But they are called the beginning and they were half price. I zoomed around to all three stores and bought two at each store and have the complete collection. Love the eligant way people spoke back then and at the end they advertise what will be on TV in 1966 or1967 on that day. Kinda amazing what was primetime back then. Hope you get a chance to watch these someday. Some really great acting in those early years. Thanks for fixing my flubs. I will read the hints and study proper posting should I find some other interesting firsts on the show. Happy viewing.
There are two areas where I am having trouble with formatting: the "memorable quotes" section of the episode page and creating links for names. For memorable quotes, when I click "edit", the menu bar appears at the top of the page, but I am not able to create a separate section that has that bar running across to separate it from previous quotes. I right-clicked on "Memorbale quotes" to access the visual editor, and using the source tab was able to create that separating bar running across, but when I type a quote and click "Publish" I am asked for an "Edit summary" -- what sort of information should I type into that box? Also, for creating links for names with the use of double brackets, when I type the first set of brackets in before the name ("[["), immediately a link box pops up and I am prevented from typing in the closing brackets; this results in only the first name rather than surname as well showing up in blue. And often, the link wouldn't work. How can I get around this?
On the plus side, it turns out my Windows system has a built-in screencap accessory called "Snipping tool"; so I was able to master this function almost immediately, and I must say I'm very pleased with the results. My very first screencap upload to DS Wiki was an image of the Ralston Purina lamp in episode 1. I feel that my screencaps will be among my biggest and best contributions to DS Wiki. How about animated GIF images? Can these be uploaded here, or should it just be JPEG?
Once I have cleared up the above two issues, I'll be well on my way. Thanks again for the invite and the helpful pointers in getting started -- this endeavor has already provided hours of creative fun! :)
Hooray, the history of the Ralston-Purina lamp is finally being recorded. This is a crucial area of Dark Shadows scholarship, I'm very happy you're on the case. :)
I'm not sure that you can add that horizontal line in the visual editor, unfortunately -- or if you can, I'm not sure how. In the wikitext, it's just four dashes at the beginning of a line: ----
For adding a link: there are a couple of ways to do it.
First, #1: You can type the name that you want to link, and then highlight it and click the link icon.
Or #2: type double brackets, and the modal pops up. Start typing the name, and there should be an autocomplete panel that appears, to fill in the rest of the name for you. Select the correct item, and then click Done.
Let me know if you're still having a hard time with it.
The edit summary is to help other contributors know what you were doing, without clicking through to see the actual change. The summary appears on the Wiki Activity page, and in the article history. It can be something simple like "adding picture" or "adding quote", or just don't put anything -- you don't have to.
An edit summary really matters when you're doing something bigger than a simple change -- like, "putting the list of appearances in alphabetical order" or "moving the paragraph about DVD releases from the lead section to a section further down the page, it's not important enough to be in the lead". When somebody looks at the change you made, it'll help them understand your intentions. This is especially helpful if you make a mistake, because it's easier to fix somebody else's edit if you understand what they were trying to do in the first place. :)
I don't actually know about GIFs -- I've never tried. Try it out, and see what happens. It probably works fine.
I'm really glad you're working on the wiki know -- I don't know why I never thought of asking! You're perfect for this place, and vice versa.
Ah, thanks so much, Danny, for your thoughtful reply. I'll try adding the four dashes for memorable quotes, and if it still blends in with previous posts, I can always undo it. :)
For some reason on the Wiki activity page, those 4 photos I added today to episode 1 showed up as by an anonymous contributor, but when you click on them from the images section of the episode page, it shows my handle. Don't know what happened there, but I suppose it's the episode page itself that counts in the long run.
Yes, contributing to this DS Wiki sure is fun. Whereas I would usually watch my DVDs up in my room on a little 9-inch screen DVD player, now I'm looking at episodes on my computer, which has better speakers and more volume, and also the full screen viewing option, which, for the first time, and with the aid of a hand-held magnifying glass, enabled me to identify the brand name of the Blue Whale jukebox -- one of the few times any such common brand names ever appeared on the show.
Well, it's great to be here. Now I'm spending more time on DS Wiki than ever -- creating these screencaps sure is fun. :)
Am starting to watch the series from Episode 1 onwards and updating things like character appearances and links and so on. Am a little unsure re the categories section. If I add a category to a character page does it automatically add that character to the category page. Also, http://darkshadows.wikia.com/wiki/Chauffeur is listed as an "unseen character" but he is actually seen onscreen. I can't work out how to remove the category from his page. Thanks!
Hi Joe! That's great, I'm glad you're going through and updating the early episodes!
You're right about adding categories -- when you add a category to an article page, that page shows up on the category list.
To remove a category -- there's a dropdown button at the top right of the edit window. The icon is called a "hamburger" -- three lines on top of each other. Click on that, and you'll get a dropdown where you can choose Categories. A modal window will open, and you can add and remove categories from there.
Let me know if there's anything else I can help with!
