MPI Media Group today announced it has completed production on the highly anticipated Master of Dark Shadows, a comprehensive celebration of the legendary Gothic daytime series Dark Shadows and its visionary creator, Dan Curtis. The feature documentary, which was shot in New York, LA and London, includes interviews with key actors and filmmakers involved in the undyingly popular story of vampire Barnabas Collins and all the eerie goings-on at the gloomy Maine mansion Collinwood. The Dark Shadows documentary was directed by David Gregory (Lost Soul, Godfathers of Mondo) and is set to be released this spring.
Narrated by Ian McShane (Deadwood), Master of Dark Shadows offers insights from Curtis himself in addition to Oscar-winning writer-producer Alan Ball (True Blood), screenwriter William F. Nolan (Trilogy of Terror), author Herman Wouk (The Winds Of War), veteran actors Whoopi Goldberg (Ghost), Barbara Steele (Black Sunday)and Ben Cross (Chariots of Fire), Dark Shadows stars Jonathan Frid, David Selby, Kathryn Leigh Scott, Lara Parker, John Karlen, Nancy Barrett, Jerry Lacy, Roger Davis, Marie Wallace, Chris Pennock and James Storm, plus other colleagues and family members.
In 1966, a phenomenon was launched when Dark Shadows debuted on ABC-TV as a daily Gothic suspense series. Airing in the late afternoon, the show attracted a massive youth audience as it shifted to the supernatural with the introduction of vulnerable vampire Barnabas Collins. Witches, ghosts and scary story lines turned Dark Shadows into a TV classic that led to motion pictures, remakes, reunions and legions of devoted fans who have kept the legend alive for five decades. Besides the 2012 Tim Burton movie reboot starring Johnny Depp, the series also spawned the 1970 spinoff film House of Dark Shadows and 1971’s Night of Dark Shadows, as well as a 1991 primetime series reboot that lasted one season.
The feature-length documentary Master of Dark Shadows reveals the fascinating history, far-reaching impact and lasting appeal of Dark Shadows with a compelling blend of rare footage and behind-the-scenes stories while also exploring the dramatic talents of creator-producer-director Dan Curtis. Known as the “King of TV Horror,” the Emmy-winning filmmaker followed Dark Shadows with other iconic genre favorites including The Night Stalker, Trilogy of Terror and Burnt Offerings before earning accolades for the epic miniseries The Winds of War and War and Remembrance.
Would you mind getting clean Muppet Show screenshots to replace the ones with Disney Channel logos on them (including Muppet Labs Pet Converter, Chris Langham zen-skiing, Chris Langham performing Hawaiian Cowboy, Side By Side By Side, Mr Dawson, Zuzu Fittzwaller, the Falling Alfonsos, the Singing Food singing Yes, We Have No Bananas in Episode 412, Muppet Sports: Wig Racing, the Bun-Bun Brothers singing Zipa-Dee-Doo-Dah, Gonzo and the farm animals singing Ain't Nobody Here But Us Chickens, Miss Piggy singing Some of These Days, Loretta Swit and a chorus of Muppets singing Side by Side by Side / What Would We Do Without You?, one of the pictures in Glenda Jackson's medley of several sea-chanty songs, one of Kermit and Fozzie's balcony scenes in Episode 517, Chris Langham's owl imitation, Foo-Foo's dog-act, Foo-Foo interrupting Kermit's intro, Statler and Waldorf talking about Cruelty to Animals, the backstage scene where Floyd gets left to take care of Foo-Foo, Floyd locks Foo-Foo in the drawer, Bear on Patrol: Fozzie captures an octopus, Swedish Chef: Hot Dogs, the backstage scene where Miss Piggy discovers what Floyd has done, The Electric Mayhem singing Rockin' Robin, the birds singing Take a Chance on Me and the goodnights scene where Janice asks Kermit and Piggy has anyone seen Floyd? Can you get some of the Muppet Wiki users to do that job like uploading some of the clean Muppet Show screenshots to replace the ones with Disney Channel logos on them?
I began my Dark Shadows obsession about 3 months ago when I discovered the series was available through my Amazon Prime account in Canada. I have been binge watching the show ever since. Oddly enough, when I traveled to the Wisconsin Dells for Christmas I was disappointed to find that it was not available in the U.S.
I decided that because I am at the mercy of whomever over sees the content on Amazon Prime that I splurged and purchased the entire series from Amazon.ca. When it arrived in it’s casket shaped box, with the outline of Barnabas inside (detailed by the spines of all the DVD’s) I was ecstatic!!
It includes a great booklet which outlines the episodes and actors.
I have been googling many of the actors, especially the young people who are still around today.
I have also purchased several of the books that have been written by former cast members ie: Kathryn Leigh Scott (Maggie Evans/Josette)that focus on the actors and some behind the scenes stories.
I am die hard now!!!
Adding episode images is something I'm still not able to do. When I click on the images link and then the Edit option for that page, I'm only able to add photos that appear at the top of the page and are thus not counted as episode images. I want to be able to add episode images that appear under the Media for episode "XXX" section. How is this done? Does one "drag and drop" directly into that part of the episode images page?
Am starting to watch the series from Episode 1 onwards and updating things like character appearances and links and so on. Am a little unsure re the categories section. If I add a category to a character page does it automatically add that character to the category page. Also, http://darkshadows.wikia.com/wiki/Chauffeur is listed as an "unseen character" but he is actually seen onscreen. I can't work out how to remove the category from his page. Thanks!
Hi Joe! That's great, I'm glad you're going through and updating the early episodes!
You're right about adding categories -- when you add a category to an article page, that page shows up on the category list.
To remove a category -- there's a dropdown button at the top right of the edit window. The icon is called a "hamburger" -- three lines on top of each other. Click on that, and you'll get a dropdown where you can choose Categories. A modal window will open, and you can add and remove categories from there.
Let me know if there's anything else I can help with!
