Collinwood after its restoration in 1972.

Collinwood was the home of the Collins family, built in the late eighteenth century by Joshua Collins after the establishment of the Collinsport fishing community. Boasting a massive two hundred rooms, the manor stood on Widows' Hill, overlooking the village of Collinsport.

The house paid tribute to the Collins family's fishing industry with nautical motifs both on the inside and outside of the house. One such embellishment was a large stone seahorse attached to the roof. The witch Angelique Bouchard used this seahorse to crush and kill Joshua and Naomi Collins.

Collinwood fell into disrepair during the 196 years Barnabas Collins was chained in a coffin and buried underground. The Collins family, suffering from the hardships placed upon them by Angeliqye, had not maintained the estate. Vines covered the building, and pumpkin patch had grown in front of the house. To save money on heating, much of the house was closed off and not in use, including an area known as, "the old wing." It was not until the vampire's Barnabas' release in October of 1972 that the house was restored to its original glory.

Collinwood was destroyed in a fire after a massive battle between the Collins family and Angelique.

Notes

  • The film version of Collinwood is based on the general appearance of Carey Mansion, the building that served as the exterior of Collinwood for the original Dark Shadows series.
