Synopsis

Barnabas recognizes Laura Collins and removes an old trunk from the attic. The trunk used to belong to his uncle, Jeremiah Collins, and inside he finds a portrait of Jeremiah's first wife, Laura Stockbridge. As he suspected, the portrait is identical to the current Mrs. Collins. He believes they are one in the same.

Background information and notes

• This is the first mention ever made of Jeremiah Collins having been a widower before he married Josette in 1795.

Continuity and mistakes

During the narration, Joan's voice echoes. David Collins is mentioned by name in the narration. The narration also mentions "that beyond this past lies another past," and...what the heck does that mean?

Barnabas says, "I have lived many lives and seen many people." what does he mean by this? He's only lived one life really and two if you count his life as a vampire. He's only been in three different time zones and not long by his own standards (most of it was in the coffin) so whast does he mean?

Angelique: Teleprompter. Loud bang as she and Barnabas talk. Interesting chat between them as they see almost accepting of each other and their faults and triumphs. It seems a new stage in their relationship. They talk about the first Trask. Barnabas tells her that if she cares about him and worries about him the way she says she does, she can undo the curse and she refuses because she knows Rachel is the first person he'd run to. Toward the end of this conversation, the picture goes out of focus.

Angelique meets Gregory.

Charity meets Angelique. Charity has a nightmare. Judith gives Charity a black veil.

At the start of Charity's sleep scene, we see the grandfather clock (4:55am). It vanishes. He dream almost starts. We see a flash of the clock again. Then the dream starts again. In the dream, we see a vampire skull.

Angelique tells Gregory to marry off his daughter as quickly as possible...TWICE one right after the other.

Trask seems to get the idea of killing Minerva here. Judith tells him that Minerva told her that Trask was ill. Trask tells Judith it is Minerva that is ill...very ill.

From the trunk of Jeremiah's in the attic: a portrait of Laura Stockbridge. Barnabas, at ten years old in the 1700s, saw it being painted and talked to Laura as she posed for it. She wore an orange riding habit that others would look silly in but not her. Laura is revealed as Jeremiah's first wife.

When Barnabas talks about Laura to Charity at the Old House, we hear a cough.
