Synopsis
Barnabas loses his cape during the time warp; Barnabas laments Roxanne, the first woman he’s loved since Josette. Julia reasons that they can’t go back to Parallel Time because Angélique’s room no longer exists there; she also says that people can get used to a life without love if they have to. Barnabas vows to hate the East Wing room forever and agrees with Julia’s observation that it seems different; they find a part of the hallway caved in. Their investigation proves that the house was not victimised by war or hurricane, but rather has been abandoned; Barnabas wonders if Elizabeth, Maggie, and David are dead. Julia finds papers she left right before getting to Parallel Time, which are now withered and old; Barnabas suspects radiation. They also find papers and a diary of Elizabeth’s indicating that the move from Collinwood was planned; they go to the cemetary to investigate and find a coffin (since his Old House Basement coffin is missing). There, they find the grave of Henry Beecham (1967-1995) and realise they’re in the future. They also find David’s grave, marked 1956-1970, but with fresh flowers; Mrs Johnson, withered and old, implores them to leave his grave alone. She thinks they’re ghosts; they are unable to get clues from the half-schizophrenic Mrs Sara on. She says the name Collins is now kin to a curse, hence the reason she’s visiting the grave at night; she says the whole family is alive and well--Mrs Stoddard in Rome, Mr Roger too, Mr Quentin is in South America, married and fine. Barnabas thinks she’s lying; after saying she can’t help them, she runs back and says “the old shack! Findley’s cove! Fredricks!” &c. The shack, which in-PT was Roxanne’s home but in 1970 was abandoned, is now flush with things from Collinwood, including the 1795 Barnabas portrait; they wonder how the items were obtained and realise they’ll find out soon....
